An ‘as-live’ event film, capturing a unique challenge staged to celebrate Bupa’s sponsorship of ParalympicsGB, combining real-time interviews, multiple camera perspectives and a powerful human story.
Client & Context
As part of Bupa’s partnership with ParalympicsGB, the campaign aimed to highlight themes of resilience, personal health and confidence.
The concept followed a member of the public and an athlete with a disability as they climbed the roof of London’s O2 Arena. Throughout the challenge, they were interviewed live from base camp by a gold-medal Paralympian.
The conversation focused on personal experiences, health challenges and the importance of building confidence when facing future goals.
The Challenge
The production required careful planning and precise execution within significant constraints.
Key considerations included:
- Capturing the climb safety across a large outdoor structure
- Coordinating multiple camera positions across a wide environment
- Facilitating a live interview between climbers and the presenter below
- Working within a strict 90-minute filming window
- Designing and delivering the technical setup within six working days of planning
The challenge was to capture an authentic moment without disrupting the experience of the participants.
Our Approach
Multi-Camera Coverage Across the Structure
To fully capture the climb and the evolving conversation, a 10-camera setup was deployed across the site.
This included cameras positioned on the roof of an adjacent building for wide coverage of the arena structure, alongside roving cameras capturing more intimate perspectives and body-worn cameras capturing every moment as they progressed across the roof. The combination of perspectives allowed the final film to move between scale and personal detail.
Live Communication & Monitoring
The climbers and presenter remained connected throughout the challenge via live audio and video monitoring.
This ensured the interview could unfold naturally while maintaining technical control across all camera feeds. Real-time coordination between camera operators and production allowed the team to respond dynamically as the climb progressed.
Efficient Planning Under Time Pressure
With only six working days between concept and execution, careful pre-production was essential.
Camera placements, communication systems and safety considerations were mapped out in advance, allowing the shoot to run smoothly within the limited 90-minute window available on the day.
The structured approach ensured that both the technical and human aspects of the project could be captured confidently.
